Well, what exactly is a habit?? When your brain doesn’t have to think any longer while executing any particular work, that’s when you can be sure that you have created a habit out of it. Creating new habits or even cutting off an old one, is tedious, I agree! However, if the drive to change your lifestyle, thereby your wellness, is high enough, it can surely get manifested.
I recently read this quote somewhere that said - Up until you turn 30, you make habits and once you cross 30, these habits make you. And this line completely changed the way I looked at creating habits because it's a known fact that habits create a sort of routine and a continuous routine creates a lifestyle, and who wouldn't want to have a great lifestyle, right?
There are simply numerous ways to go about trying to make many habits at once. However, the chance of accomplishing consistency for all these at one go is highly unlikely. Hence, it is always suggested to start with one new habit at a time. This makes it easier for us and highly effective to keep track of the changes that occur within us once it becomes our habit, routine and finally our way of life.
Things to consider while making/breaking habits:
CONSISTENCY: It is difficult to achieve and easier to break, but once mastered, can completely transform our lives for the better. Tips to achieve it? Tracking and maintaining the consistency of the work that we put in is extremely crucial for visualizing our progress. This can be achieved in several different ways like (a) jotting down the habits that we would like to include, along with the dates (this is where the habit tracker helps), so that it becomes easier for us to track our improvement, or (b) by taking help of a productivity app (like Loop Habit Tracker) which makes our job trouble-free and effortless.
PATIENCE: This is another essential tool that one needs to practice, in order to effectively create or break a habit. One cannot expect to attain magnificent results as soon as initiating the process. After all, good things take time :)
MOTIVATION: At times, it so happens that we start a habit quickly, but the process gets hampered as a result of lack of motivation. One of the ways to tackle this difficulty is to think about the problems that we encounter while creating that particular habit and modifying it just a tad bit or by simply breaking those habits into smaller manageable parts.
FAITH: It also has its own sweet importance in the incorporation of habits. Faith in ourselves, in the mere thought that anything and everything can be accomplished once we create constructive, operative and valuable habits, is the key.
As Rome was not built in a day, even great habits take time to develop and showcase its effects.
I really hope these tips somehow helped you or motivated you to start a new habit or break an old one!
