The way we start our morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Creating a morning routine doesn’t demand you to be a morning person. Whether you are an early riser or a midnight owl, having a dedicated morning routine whenever you wake up is highly beneficial and necessary as well.
Having a structured morning routine enables you to face the upcoming challenges that the day has to bring, in an effective manner. There are numerous things that can be included in your morning routine but the most essential ones should be those that energize and refresh both your mind and body.
Setting intentions or a positive focus for the day is highly important which will decide how you deal with the upcoming events of your day. When your mind is refreshed and free of all sorts of stress, it makes you think better and come up with efficient ways of handling complexities. This can be well achieved by a MENTAL WAKE-UP ROUTINE that includes:
- Feeding your brain by reading few pages of a book (self-help/spiritual/motivational) or even listening to a podcast (The Habit Coach and The Mindset Mentor are some of my favorites).
- Writing down a few things that you feel grateful and thankful for can provide a great kick to your morning by instantly boosting up your mood. I prefer writing down five things I am grateful for each morning and don't usually repeat these points further for 60 days straight. This practice is highly useful because this way we start appreciating even the smallest things in life.
- Meditating or praying, even for just a couple of minutes, can freshen up your mind and help you maintain your calm throughout the day.
- Planning out your day and listing out priorities is preferred to be done the previous night, so that it doesn't drain our brain's energy thinking about it in the morning hours.
Speaking about the body, it is extremely essential to energize your body before you head out for your day. Thus, the PHYSICAL WAKE-UP ROUTINE can include:
- Focusing on what your first intake of the day looks like. A glass of warm water with lemon/Green tea is sufficient to freshen you up.
- Trying to include sometime for exercise and yoga that will aid in enhancing your strength, flexibility and stamina.
- Getting enough sunshine vitamin (Vit D) in the early mornings of the day is highly beneficial as well as vital for the body.
And, here is my version of an overall view of a productive morning routine :)
A few no-no’s:
- Picking up your phone just to check few notifications which might end up in that aimless scrolling first thing in the morning can stress you if it becomes a habit, hence it’s good to avoid its usage as soon as you wake up.
- Even glancing at the newspapers might disturb your peaceful morning vibe with their scary front-page headlines.
Having a perfect morning routine is not possible every day, because hey, Life happens. There are times when we kinda feel low, and it is okay to give ourselves that grace to skip it through. But, remember to get back to it right from the next day!
More than anything, start your day with a smile on your face and gratitude in your heart <3
